This is a directory concerned mainly with multiplayer word games, and strategy aids to playing such games, as these are the most popular types of interactive game on the web. For example, scrabble and hangman versions which often appear under disguised names as well as crosswords and the like.
We have yet to find a verbal interactive game - though surely this is only a matter of time with technology such as MSN chat and Skype so common on home computers. We have included one link to a site about one of the most favourite radio shows of all time, 'Just A minute' - a panel word game - which can be heard online from the BBC's web sites and various other radio stations around the world such as ABC (The national Australian brodcaster). We have also included what might be loosely termed 'word game resources'. These are aids, strategies, tips and techniques - or if you like 'How to cheat better at scrabble'.

Pogo Games is from EA Games and, as you would therefore expect, is an extremely professional and competent site - with especially good java implementations. It contains many dozens of different games some of which are free to all comers, others require you to become a subscribed member. Membership is monthly or yearly. There are many word games, the best of which is a scrabble-like game called QWERTY. The major word games on Pogo are: QWERTY, Word Whomp, Word Whomp Crackdown, Scrabble Blast Word Search and Crossword plus a few others including a brand new version of the classic hangman which we are still yet to evaluate. Pogo Scrabble. Pogo now includes the classic Scrabble game also - unfortunately it is not available to everyone, even some members, due to a geographic licensing agreement. |

Jack-of-all-trades but master of none, the Yahoo games section still deserves to be mentioned. It does have reasonable implementations of many games (such as scrabble, literatii and backgammon, various card games and many others). It is free and the site is extremely popular and consequently suffers from all the frustrations that go along with that scenario. If two of you are looking for a quiet game of something then using a private table at Yahoo can be an easy answer. |
